Officers trained in GIS/GPS technology
Written by Administrator
DMI has sponsored two residential training courses for twenty (20) Arid Lands Resource Management Project (ALRMP) officers, mainly data analysts and ICT officers, in GIS/GPS technology.
This brings the total number of officers trained in GIS to 40, with another 40 officers trained on-the-job at the district level. The Project has procured GPS equipment and GIS software to facilitate the adoption of GIS technology by all the 28 District Drought Management Units (DDMUs).
The Project plans to carry out a hands-on training for the ALRMP data analysts and other district officers on the collection, analysis, information presentation and dissemination using GIS and Remote sensing techniques.
This information will help district officers to present and disseminate information to the policy makers, pastoral and agro-pastoral communities and other stakeholders, to aid in decision-making for drought management. The training will improve the quality of the early warning bulletins generated every month through the use of GIS and remote sensing tools in the specific context of food security.
