DMI supports development of drought management policies that lead to institutionalisation of coordination structures.
Towards this end, the Project will initiate the formation and capacity building of a national policy team to prompt the process towards enactment of relevant policies.
The team will include representatives from key sectoral ministries and local government.
In particular, the National Policy on Sustainable Development of Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) and Disaster Management policies are essential to formalise the role and mandate of the drought management structures promoted under the Arid Lands Resource Management Project (ALRMP).
Advocacy
DMI will embark on advocacy activities to facilitate enactment of relevant drought management policies, and, in particular, the adoption of the ASAL policy.
The Project will, therefore, facilitate a number of workshops, under the coordination of the new Ministry of State for Development of Northern Kenya and other Arid Lands, where it will present the recommendations of the study.
The workshops will bring together all relevant stakeholders in the policy formulation and adoption process.
